Dark Lord Ganondorf Finally Getting Statue Treatment

Published on July 31st, 2012 by in News

It’s taken a long damn time, but First 4 Figures is finally making a Ganondorf statue. Not just any statue but a 1/4 scale model of Dark Lord Ganondorf from Twilight Princess. You know you want one, I know I want one. The only thing that doesn’t want one is our wallets.

After this you just need that Doom statue. But damn that thing is gorgeous.

While I liked the Ganondorf design of Oot and Windwaker more, I have to admit this does look cool!

I know I said this in several other sites already, but …. I just want the Zelda series to die.

    • Conangiga

And what again is wrong with you? The Zelda series should die? Where did that come from?

    • link182

I don’t know how anyone could say that they want it to die unless they always hated it. As someone who used to love the series but thinks it’s taken some pretty big missteps lately, I’d rather have it be reborn than for it to die. The people who have been working on the series haven’t been doing as good of a job lately as they used to, so why not take a break from it for a few years and let Retro Studios make a few Zelda games in the meantime? They’ve been trusted with Metroid and Donkey Kong and people loved what they did with those franchises, so why not let them try to breathe some new life into Zelda?

      • K2L

I want it to die because, for one, it’s just plain impossible to please everybody. No matter how good the next game is, it will never be able to surpass OOT because the sheer amount of nostalgia among fans will make them refuse to accept any game as better than it. Thus, the complaints will come en masse and the new game will be bashed for years and years until they regret it and start calling it an “underrated masterpiece”, the same lame excuse given to each and every post-OOT game. If it’s not a visual style (cel-shading vs. realism), it’s a gameplay element (masks, 3-day limits, sailing, wolf, trains, flying). If it’s not that, then it’s a control issue (traditional controls vs. touch vs. motion). I’m tired of the haterade. It’s impossible to please everybody, we’ll never be able to move on from OOT like Mario Galaxy managed to move on from Mario 64 (unbelievable as that might have been!!!), or like Metroid Prime blew away the Super Metroid nostalgia.

They’re just wasting their time, they should just shut down the series for good. It’s beyond saving at this very late point.

        • Chronis

Honestly, see what the next core game looks like. If you like what you see , try it out and enjoy. Theres no reason why the whole “Waaah this isnt as good as OoT I’m gonna let the whole internet know!” BS detract you from enjoying a phenomenal game series. The games are about having a fun experience.

        • Conangiga

I know what you mean, but like link182 said, the recent games are really not as good as they were before. Phantom Hourglass? Spirit Tracks? Skyward Sword? Good games but not amazing games. But that doesn’t stop me from playing each and every new Zelda game because they are still good and I don’t give a *hit what those morons say in the internets. The last really amazing Zelda game was Twilight Princess, which blew the OoT nostalgia away for me (which doesn’t mean that I didn’t love MM and TWW). And I’m sure that someday another Zelda game will be developed that is better then TP. I never expected anything would surpass Mario 64 and Mario World, but along came Galaxy.

          • Chronis

Ok yeah I have to agree with you there. I really did not like Phantom Hourglass or Spirit tracks at all. I understand that quality can vary, and yes, it is hard to picture a game that blows us away like Twilight Princess or OoT, but I’m still gonna give them a look.

          • K2L

I really wanted to skip SS because I knew it was going to be a commercial and critical disaster. But my mentally-retarded brother had to buy it. My catalogue of fully-acclaimed games stopped being stellar since then. =/

  4. Henrie

Oh man! What’s wrong with you! Letting the Zelda franchise die: Are you serious!!!

And you argument is laughable: Just because people whine about games you personally can’t enjoy them anymore?! Well, that’s just crazy! If that’s how you feel, then just ignore all the Zelda comments and just play the games!

…and then you start whining yourself by stating that you played SS against your will?! And that it tainted your entire future catalogue (I remember you said that before)?!

    Aaah, come on!!!

Personally I think the last 2 console Zelda’s where dissapointing (while the handheld titles where great, especially Spirit tracks). I strongly feel that the “it must be more casual” stance is to blame!+ that I think that Miyamoto is losing his playfull touch (he should think out of the box again! And I don’t mean because of yet another controller, but just to make the gameplay as good as possible. With neat little secrets and lots of freedom! Surprise us!) and that there are maybe to much women in the team (it has been said that a lot of women worked on Tp and Ss, more so then on other Zelda’s). It’s really the highest of times that they either give it to the Tokyo studio (creators of the Mario galaxy titles), or to the men of Retro studios. I have a feeling that Retro studios could work wonders on the franchise again, making it manly again without making it to violent or to dark or to serious!

Oh, why am I wasting my time! You want it to die! Oh well, that’s your opinion!

  5. Henrie

Don’t get me wrong: I am not in the “Zelda must be darker/young Link is lame” camp! I like the windwaker graphics more then the Twilight princess graphics (though the Zelda Wii u demo looked terrific)! I feel that Retro studios can make it colorful and at the same time make it more attractive for males, as silly as that may sound!

Either way: Zelda IS Nintendo’s crownjewel and it can shine again…if they take the right decisions!

  6. link182

“Too much women in the team”? That seems kinda sexist to me, Henrie.

Anyway, the point K2L made about Metroid and Mario isn’t 100% accurate. I know quite a few people who still prefer Super Mario 64 to Super Mario Galaxy (myself included), or who prefer Super Metroid to Metroid Prime. But most of those people still enjoyed those games and they were still good games, even if the players thought they weren’t “as good as” whatever predecessor the players preferred. Besides, there have always been and will always be people who aren’t satisfied, just as you said. Back when Super Mario 64 came out there were reviewers who criticized it for being too dissimilar to the games on the NES; suddenly there was a health pie, there was fall damage, there was no time limit, you completed objectives to get stars instead of just running through levels from Point A to Point B… but that didn’t matter, because most people still enjoyed it.

And, I’d like to point out that a large portion of the people who played Metroid Prime or Super Mario Galaxy didn’t really play earlier games of either series. Prime 2 was my first “true” introduction to the Metroid series, which I’d only had casual knowledge of before then. Many of the people I know didn’t used to be into video games until they got a Wii, so while they might have known who Mario was they weren’t familiar with most of the games aside from perhaps Mario Party.

Your argument, if I may paraphrase, is “It’s impossible to please everybody and we’ll never be able to move on from OOT due to nostalgia, so they should just shut down the series for good. It’s beyond saving at this very late point.” I take the same premise of “It’s impossible to please everybody” and come to the conclusion “Don’t try.” That’s what they’ve been trying to do for years since people complained about the cel-shading of The Wind Waker and how much Americans hate Tingle. It leads to a hodgepodge of game design elements that don’t go well together. They need a fresh start, unburdened by thoughts of what the fans want, in order to truly make something good. Because the truth is, the fans don’t know what they want, they just think they do, and they tell the developers and the developers use those ideas and the fans are disappointed. If the Americans like it, it sells poorly in Japan. If the Japanese like it, the Americans complain about it to no end. It’s clear from interviews that they’ve been trying to “top” Ocarina of Time since at least Twilight Princess, and while TP is good I think that the mindset of “we need to top this game, we need to make this the best of the series,” I think that’s a bad mindset to have when creating anything. It hinders creativity, it hinders originality. People say “I want it to be more like the old games,” so they do that, and then people complain and say “There’s nothing new here.”

I think that the developers of the Zelda series have gotten stuck in a rut. Maybe they can unstick themselves from it, maybe they can’t, that’s not something I can pretend to know — and it’s just my opinion anyway, plenty of reviewers loved Skyward Sword. But if they handed the series over to Retro Studios for just one game, I can guarantee that we would get something new, something different, and something fresh, while still maintaining the basic tenets of the series.

Also most of this conversation has nothing to do with the awesome statue the article is about.

  7. K2L

@Henrie: Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying I hate Zelda, I’m saying it’s unable to create the same impact OOT did because every player has now a completely different idea on how to make a game perfect. In fact, Zelda Dungeon has just published an article about that, it’s still among the most recent articles, you’d do well upon reading it if you have the time.

@link182: I’ll reply you by parts:

“I take the same premise of “It’s impossible to please everybody” and come to the conclusion “Don’t try.” That’s what they’ve been trying to do for years since people complained about the cel-shading of The Wind Waker and how much Americans hate Tingle.”

Problem is, Nintendo’s goal IS to try to surpass OOT. Aonuma himself said he wouldn’t want to quit until achieving that goal. And he took over from Majora’s Mask onwards. In fact, TP and SS themselves were actually advertised as “OOT killers”, and neither succeeded completely with their mission.

“I know quite a few people who still prefer Super Mario 64 to Super Mario Galaxy (myself included), or who prefer Super Metroid to Metroid Prime. But most of those people still enjoyed those games and they were still good games, even if the players thought they weren’t “as good as” whatever predecessor the players preferred. Besides, there have always been and will always be people who aren’t satisfied, just as you said.”

I do know that Prime and Mario 64 had to face some skepticism (Prime’s first-person debate was hotly ongoing back in 2001-02). But thing is, those games managed to outweight the low expectations and awed the masses, something that Zelda hasn’t been able to do since after OOT. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s partly Nintendo’s fault due to their radical way of experimenting in regards of controls, gameplay and visuals. But I can’t help but think that the damage caused by the opinion division is so high that, even if Zelda Wii U had ultra-realistic visuals, ultra-violent content and ultra-everything else fans wanted, it would still be a mixed bag overall, due to it not being anymore what absolutely everybody wants.

“It leads to a hodgepodge of game design elements that don’t go well together. They need a fresh start, unburdened by thoughts of what the fans want, in order to truly make something good. Sigh, you’re right there. It actually makes me realize that such thing as “surpassing OOT” is even harder than I thought. I guess they can only please one of the sectors of players. =(

“Also most of this conversation has nothing to do with the awesome statue the article is about.”

Matt already said it, none of us will be able to afford that anyway. At least I won’t, that’s for sure. I’m already having a very hard time trying to get The Last Story, which will have a limited distribution IN THE STATES, meaning that getting it in my country will be near impossible.

But sorry for the topic detour nevertheless, I had already said in another Gemakei comment that I’m suffering a mental block preventing me from playing Zelda games, so I’ll do my best to not bring this issue anytime soon.

“Too much women in the team”? That seems kinda sexist to me, Henrie”

Yeah, I knew it was a bit risky to say that! But I think there should be a balance between men and women. To much women on a Zelda title, I just feel that it isn’t right! Sorry about that!

“But if they handed the series over to Retro Studios for just one game, I can guarantee that we would get something new, something different, and something fresh, while still maintaining the basic tenets of the series”

Absolutely! But the problem is: What if people do love it more then Nintendo’s home-baked Zelda’s?! I guess that’s the main-reason why they still have not handed it over to Retro. They are afraid to lose face, and we all know how Japanese are (pride and stuff). But luckily for us slowly but surely Nintendo is warming to this idea (A Zelda made by Retro). Maybe it happens someday!

    @K2L,

Yeah, Oot was my first Zelda and is still the one I love most. But that also has to do with nostalgia! So yeah, for me no Zelda can be better. And everyone has their own opinion on what the next Zelda should be. One person wants more color, while a other wants more darkness. But most fans agree that the series should be taken out of the “casual/non-gamers” area and that we want less handholding and more freedom! But sadly Miyamoto and co have their ears plugged! No wonder the Zelda sales are going down all the time! But even if Oot can’t be beaten for me, I try to enjoy the rest of the series as much as I can. And since I enjoyed Spirit tracks so much (it had some very tricky puzzles, wich I loved) I feel I just should keep playing those games! Hopefully you also will be charmed by a new Zelda game someday!

“Also most of this conversation has nothing to do with the awesome statue the article is about”

Yeah, but that is because I HAD to comment on KSL! He made such a controversial statement, I just had to give a reaction! Sorry that I went off-topic!

  9. K2L

    It’s K2L, not KSL, Henrie.

By the way, the preorders have started. The price is 480$. I sure as heck don’t have that amount of money, sooooo……

  10. Henrie

    “It’s K2L, not KSL, Henrie”

    Sorry. Little misstake from me!
