Nicalis, indie game publisher of such hit titles like Cave Story and VVVVVV, has revealed a nice surprise this morning. It will be publishing the previously indie only fighting game Yagatarasu in North America and Europe. Yagatarasu is the name a mythical three legged raven in Japanese folklore, but what that has to do with a buncha dudes and dudettes duking it out I have no idea. Circle Edge is the three man developement circle that made the title and they have previous experience making King of Fighters, which you can probably tell from the gameplay footage.
Breaking Yagatarasu down, it is a four button 2D fighter that employs a parry system just like the Street Fighter III system. This should make the hardcore fighting game fans happy, well it would but they seem unable to enjoy a game not on their home console. It’s seriously pretty pathetic sometimes, I’m looking at you RE: Revelations sales. The title will include a tutorial and replay mode, also interesting is that there is a special announcer mode where you have commentary over the matches that mimics real life tournament commentary. No price date or price has been set, BUT the title will be playable in the giant Indie Game Booth at PAX Prime 2012 next weekend. We will be on hand to check it out and bring you the latest impressions of this seriously impressive looking indie fighting game from nowhere.
